It had GOD all over it

Many of you know that Rebeka had been looking for a job since January.  Her major was Visual Communications and she is a Graphic Designer.  She had 3 years of real world experience working for Berry College.  She's really good at what she does - and I don't way that just because I'm her mother.

She sent in over 120 applications.  Very few interviews or call backs.  Lots of rejections or just not hearing anything.  Graduation came and went.  She had 2 internships, a part-time job and housing for the summer so she stayed in Rome, GA.  We were all on hold, praying for a job and encouraging her to hang in there.

Summer came to an end.  Her housing was running out and she started packing to come home, which was always an option, but it seemed more like Plan Z to her.

She had already had 2 Skype interviews for a job south of us.  But they wanted to fill the position quickly.  When they learned she was heading home, then they decided to hold it open until she got here.  Very hopeful.

She arrived on a Sunday night and Monday afternoon we made it a girl's outing to drive her down for the interview.  When the interview took much, much longer than the expected 30 minutes we knew it was going well.

An hour and 10 minutes later she came out all smiles.  EMPLOYED!!  Berry College students usually have a job within 3 months of graduation.  Hers came 3 months and 1day after graduation.  We'll take it.

It is with an e-publishing company.  She has always wanted to get into publishing.  Creative Writing was her original minor.  She works from home.  She got the pay she wanted.  She gets paid to take courses to learn new skills for her job.  She does proof reading, design, marketing, and I can't remember all the other things.  All things she is good at and enjoys.

Turns out they held the job open until they met her because they liked her international/immigrant background.  The owners are also immigrants.  They thought she would really be able to understand and relate.  That is so true.  It is so hard for people to understand that after having lived overseas - especially in the kinds of places we lived - it gives you a different mindset.

So her plan is to live at home, spend time with her sisters and save up for her own place in the future.  That is all good news for us.  Since she worked every summer on campus we saw her for less than a month total each year.  That was hard - especially for Elizabeth and Sarah.  Even though she is quiet and stays in her room putting in her 8 hours each day it is enough to know that she is there.  When the girls get home from school it is music to my ears to hear them squeal and giggle together.

If she had gotten the job in Rome back in the Spring or the one in Boston that looked so promising or even the one in Bowling Green that was appealing none of this would have happened.  God knew.  It is a reminder to us to be patient.  He knows what's best - and it just might be our Plan Z.

Welcome Home, Rebeka!

Congratulations!!

Rebeka graduated from Berry College on May 7th.  It was a beautiful ceremony on the lawn.

From our point of view it was a fast four years.  We are so very thankful for the good experience she had at Berry and the fact that she graduated debt-free.  Now she really steps out into adulthood.
Her major was Visual Communications.  She is a Graphic Designer and very good at what she does.  She already has 3 years of experience in her field due to the unique work opportunities that she had at Berry.
Her current plan is to stay in Rome for the summer and take a little breather since she literally worked non-stop through the breaks and summers for the last 4 years.  She does have 2 internships to give her more experience and hopes to have a full-time graphic design job lined up by the end of the summer.
